Community Love Doughnut Initiative

Happy August - our Community Love Doughnut for August is the S’mores! A brioche yeast doughnut filled with house-made marshmallow, dipped in pure Callebaut milk chocolate and covered with toasted graham crumb. We are excited to partner with YWCA this month - a portion of the sale of each S’mores for the month of August will go to YWCA

Founded in 1897, YWCA Metro Vancouver’s mission is to advance gender equity alongside women, families, Two-Spirit and gender diverse people through advocacy and integrated services that help support personal, collective and economic wellbeing. We boldly envision a just and equitable world for women, families and allies.

YWCA currently operates 72 programs in 66 locations across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. Their robust portfolio includes safe and affordable housing, violence prevention, legal education and advocacy, child care, employment services, youth mentorship and support for single mothers. YWCA continuously evaluates and adapts their programs to meet the needs of our community.

Within the tri-cities, YWCA offers 37 units of long-term housing for single mothers living on low or limited incomes, and their dependent children at YWCA Como Lake Gardens and Mews, located at 520/528 Como Lake Avenue, Coquitlam. Residents pay a maximum of 30% of their income in rent, which for many is the shelter portion of their income assistance. In addition to safe and affordable housing, the on-site YWCA Community Development Coordinator provides access to holistic, integrated programs and services that aim to reduce isolation, build community connections and foster economic independence. They also offer WorkBC employment programs in Coquitlam, Port Moody and Port Coquitlam.
